From the Writings of St. Angela Merici
(special thanks to Sr. Madonna O’Hara OSU (’55) for providing these writings)
- Never cease to cultivate this vine that has been entrusted to you. After that, leave the rest to God, to work wonders at the time which God finds best.
- As for yourselves, live and behave in such a way that others may see themselves mirrored in you. And whatever you want them to do, do it first yourselves.
- My dear ones, strive with God’s help to acquire such an attitude of mind and heart that you are moved to care for those you serve only through love of God.
- Do not lose courage, then, if you feel yourselves incapable of knowing and doing all that such a special charge demands. Have confidence and strong faith that God will assist you in everything.
- Always and in all things act wisely and with discernment.
- Let your first refuge be to gather together at the feet of Jesus Christ and there, all of you pray most fervently. For in this way, without any doubt, Jesus Christ will be in your midst… He will enlighten you and show you what you have to do.
- Take special care that there is unity and harmony among you. …the more united you are, the more Jesus Christ will be there among you. And there will be no other sign that you, the servant of the Lord, enjoy the Lord’s favor than the love and unity existing among you.
- Remain in harmony, united together, all of one heart and one will. Be bound to one another by the bond of charity, respecting each other, helping each other and bearing with each other in Jesus Christ. If you try to be like this, without any doubt, God will be in your midst.
