Mission Statement

The Ursuline Academy Alumni Foundation in Springfield, Illinois was founded in 2007 to celebrate and honor the Academy’s 150 year history of education and service. In remembrance of the Academy as an educational institution, the Ursuline Academy Alumni Foundation seeks to continue the work of the Ursuline Sisters, foundresses of Ursuline Academy, and is dedicated to

  • preserving the historical heritage of Ursuline Academy;
  • honoring the Academy’s core tenant of Serviam (“I will serve”) by promoting community service and outreach;
  • building the bonds of friendship among the Academy’s alumni family; and
  • furthering the advancement of Catholic education in the city of Springfield.

Serviam

The SERVIAM Shield is the emblem of loyalty known by Ursuline students throughout the world.  The seven stars, representing Ursa Minor, are a reminder of our patroness, Saint Ursula.  The stars tell us of the heights to which our ideals must soar.  The cross stands for Faith, the foundation of all Christian action.

SERVIAM is the motto of all Ursuline schools worldwide.  The word Serviam — “I will serve” — is symbolized by the virtue of devotedness.  We are taught to learn how to forget self in order to think of others.  Service to family, parish and the local community are signs of Serviam.  The word includes in its meaning self-sacrifice and world-embracing charity.
